2006 Christmas Awards Ceremony

Awards and trophies

At the Christmas party, as well as awarding medals to the team members in each team, some of the club’s members were awarded certificates and trophies in recognition of their performance over the past year.

As our Squad and Elementary swimmers get faster, they become eligible for ASA Competitive Sprint Performance awards, based on their 50m or 100m times over each stroke.

The following swimmers gained new Sprint awards during the last 6 months:

Since the start of 2004, we have been tracking club records and now have a record of the swimmer who has swum the fastest time over each stroke at 25m, 50m and 100m in each of 5 age-groups over the last 3 years.

The following have set new club records during July - November 2006:

Trophies and certificates were awarded to the most-improved swimmers (according to the percentage increase in their 50m aggregate over the last 12 months) and to the fastest swimmers, weighted according to age (calculated by seeing whose 50m times are closest to the London Region qualifying times for their age group).

The most improved swimmers were, in third place, Matilda and Euan T-R, in 2nd place, Safaa and Max O, and the winners of the "Yumyum" Cups for Most Improved Swimmer Trophies this year were Sarah and Thomas H.

The fastest swimmers were, in third place, Hannah M and Ben P, in 2nd place, Abigail and Jonathan, and the winners of the Warburton’s Fastest Swimmer Trophies this year were Sarah and Gabriel.

We also had some new trophies this year. The first recipient of the Stoke Newington First Trophy for the Most Improved Water Polo Player was Katie, while the winner of the Stoke Newington First Trophy for the Best Water Polo Player was Ben P.

Finally, the Wally Tassell Trophies for the Coaches’ Swimmers of the Year, presented by our guest of honour, Wally Tassell, former Chief Coach of Haggerston Swimming Club, went to Safaa and Jonathan.
