Anaconda Graded league gala January 2007 - report
Congratulations to all who swam in yesterday's gala. It was very closely fought and we eventually finished in 2nd place, just 7 points behind Leyton.
We got 1st, 2nd or 3rd places in well over half the events.
1st places went to Katherine and Max (both for 50m freestyle), Max and Kieran (both for 25m backstroke), Tom (25m breaststroke) and Devon (25m freestyle). The boys 4 x 50m freestyle relay team (Dan, Max, James & Matthew) and the 25m freestyle relay team (James, Rene, Adam & Matthew) also came in first.
Dan was second in 100m breaststroke, Loulou and Ben in 50m breaststroke and Leyla in 25m breaststroke. Kieran came second in 100m freestyle, Hannah and Matthew in 50m backstroke, Charlotte in 25m backstroke and Rachel in 50m fly. The girls 4 x 25m medley team (Isabel, Leyla, Charlotte and Hannah M-B) and the boys 4 x 50m medley team (Dan, Max, Kieran & Fred) also achieved second places.
Charlotte came in 3rd in 100m freestyle, Rachel was 3rd in 50m freestyle and Fred 3rd in 25m freestyle. Tao and Bibsi were both 3rd in 25m breaststroke. The girls 4 x 50m freestyle relay team (Bibsi, Katherine, Devon & Safaa) and the girls 8 x 25m freestyle squad relay (Rachel, Katherine, Inez, Devon, Isabel, Hannah M-B, Leyla & Charlotte) also came in 3rd.
Safaa (100m breaststroke), Leyla (50m backstroke), Inez (25m fly) and Isabel (25m backstroke) all swam fast enough to be upgraded in their individual races, achieving PBs in the process. In fact the majority of swimmers achieved PBs:
- 100m freestyle: Kieran
- 50m freestyle: Katherine & Max
- 25m freestyle: Inez and Fred (with Tao and Devon clocking up a time for the first time)
- 100m breaststroke: Safaa & Dan
- 25m breaststroke: Leyla & Tom (with Tao again clocking up a time for the first time)
- 50m backstroke: Hannah, Ben & Leyla
- 25m backstroke: Charlotte & Kieran (with Isabel clocking up a time for the first time)
- 25m fly: Inez
Congratulations to all of you, especially to Devon, Isabel, Adam & Tao who were all swimming in their first gala, to Tom & Arthur who stepped in at the last minute when 3 of the boys originally in the team called in sick on Friday evening/ Saturday morning and to Hannah M-B, who swam most of Millie's races as well as her own, when Millie injured her shoulder.
Thank you to Rob for timekeeping, Andy for being the starter, Pauline & Rob who recorded split times for all the races, Alina & Greg, who managed the team and to all the parents for their support.
The next graded league gala is on 24th March, so we will be hoping to do just as well in that one. The team will be chosen about 2 weeks in advance and I expect many of you will be required, although we do try and rotate swimmers, so that as many as posible have the chance to participate.
Best wishes
Jenny
