Clissold Diving School and Diving Team

Clissold Swimming club is a multi-disciplinary aquatic sports club and diving is one of the club's activities. All of our divers are competitive swimmers and compete regularly in swimming competitions in addition to their diving.

Dive training takes place at Park Road Leisure Centre in Haringey where we work with our partners Haringey Sport & Leisure Services and we are talking with Islington Council about the possibility of re-introducing boards at Ironmonger Row Baths near Old Street.

Our coach, Rick Dear, is an ex Great Britain diver who wants our divers to have FUN and wants to pass on his skills and instill the confidence not just to dive for pleasure but also to compete at appropriate levels.

In our first year of diving our "Young Pioneer" divers of 2007 have gone from rookie beginners in the spring to mid-table rankings at the London Youth Games in July. The club is very proud of these young divers and we look forward to their inspiration guiding many more young people to dive for Clissold

Diving with Clissold is taught in an atmosphere that both supports and challenges young divers as they move through the levels. We also hope to build young people's confidence to a level where they will dive competitively when they are ready.

"On Sunday 1st July, Safaa, Amina and Tao represented Hackney in the diving competition. This was the first time that Hackney has ever entered a diving team in the London Youth Games. They came 16th out of 24 boroughs entering, which is a really fantastic achievement, considering that they only started learning to dive a few months ago.

They each had to execute four dives, at least 3 of which had to be different dives. Safaa and Amina both included a backward dive with a forward somersault in their repertoire, while Tao completed a backward dive. The diving squad, which included Jonathan,

Jonathan, Gabriel and Demera as well as Safaa, Amina and Tao, have trained extremely hard to achieve this level of competence in such a short period of time. Their coach, Rick Dear, and indeed the whole club can be very proud of our divers. "
