Harringey Gala
Thank you to those who took part in the Haringey LGL gala on Saturday. The team came 4th in the end with 204 points(there were some adjustments to the scores afterwards). This was actually the worst result we have achieved in the London Graded League for over 2 years BUT (I hasten to add) this was NOT because swimmers were coming in last or even 4th or 5th in their races. On the contrary, you all swam incredibly well and exceeded our expectations, to the extent that we ended up with 11 upgrades (when the swimmer swims faster than the upgrade time). This was obviously not great from the point of view of team points, but a real achievement for the swimmers concerned who came in with good PBs.
6 swimmers were upgraded in individual races, all of them achieving new PBs in the process:
- Joe & Anthony - both 50m freestyle
- Dan - 100m breaststroke
- Daniel - 50m fly
- Amina - 25m fly
- Joshua - 25m freestyle
Many other swimmers also achieved PBs:
- 50m freestyle: Sakinah & Demera
- 25m freestyle: Inez, Hannah & Tylar
- 50m breaststroke: Demera, Ben & Amina
- 25m breaststroke: Joshua, Leyla, Billie & Tylar
- 50m backstroke: Charlotte & Kieran
- 25m backstroke: Ben, Demera & Tylar
- 25m fly: Tom
Daniel set a new U14 club record for 50m fly.
There were 21 top 3 places:
- Matilda - 1st in 100m freestyle
- Sakinah - 1st in 50m freestyle
- Amina- 1st in 50m breaststroke
- Tom - 1st in 25m fly
- Demera - 1st in 50m breaststroke and 3rd in 50m freestyle
- Tylar - 1st in 25m freestyle and 3rd in 25m backstroke
- Ben - 2nd in 50m breaststroke and 3rd in 25m backstroke
- Kieran - 2nd in 50m backstroke
- Leyla - 2nd in 25m breaststroke
- Joshua- 2nd in 25m breaststroke
- Billie- 2nd in 25m breaststroke
- Katherine - 3rd in 50m backstroke
- Inez - 3rd in 25m freestyle
The girls were very successful in their relays, with the freestyle squad relay team (Demera, Sakinah, Hannah, Lily, Billie, Inez, Matilda & Charlotte) coming infirst. The 4 x 50m freestyle relay team (Matilda, Joanna, Billie & Charlotte) were 2nd, as was the 4 x 25m medley team (Leyla, Katherine, Inez & Sakinah). The 4 x 25m breaststroke team (Demera, Leyla, Hannah & Charlotte) and the 4 x 50m medley team (Katherine, Leyla, Charlotte & Amina) were both 3rd.
The boys were less successful this time in their relays, with DQs or upgrades in all of them, but full credit to the boys who were upgraded, who swam so much faster than we had anticipated they would, especially Harry, Pablo and Anthony who were all swimming in their first gala.
