Clissold Swimming club

Our Aims and Philosophy

Clissold Swimming Club is Hackney's competitive swimming club and trains young swimmers of all ages to a high standard. The club sees itself as an aquatic sports club offering opportunities for people of all ages to take part in diving, waterpolo and open water swimming. All club teaching and coaching methods are devised with these aims in mind and all swimmers, divers and players are taught appropriate techniques to achieve their maximum potential.

Although the Club is ambitious, it is our aim to develop swimmers without undue pressure, in a friendly, fun, injury-free, supportive and non-aggressive environment.

The club believes that all its members - swimmers, coaches and parents - should feel strongly that they are an important part of a club with a strong team spirit, working together and supporting each other to reach new levels of achievement. In due course, it is expected that members achieving the necessary standard will swim for the Club teams in a variety of events and they will be encouraged to take part in the Club's competitive programme.

It is relatively easy to achieve success, particularly at young ages by putting great pressure on swimmers and working them extremely hard, but this approach can rebound in later years and is therefore not the Clissold approach.
