waterpolo roundup December 2006

Water polo

The mixed U16 water polo team played in the first tournament of the 2006/2007 winter League on Sunday 05 November. They played four matches, each of 10 minutes, against some very tough opposition. The first match was against Beckenham (lost 9 -0 ), the second against Worthing (lost 16 -0 ), the third against Croydon Amphibians ( lost 16 – 0) and the fourth against Enfield SC (lost 2 -1). This was certainly a steep learning curve for the team, who were playing in their first tournament at this level.

Congratulations to the team, comprising Safaa, Charlotte, Rachel, Abigail, Hannah, Katherine, Ben, Dan, Joe, Gabriel, Oscar and Nabil. They all played their best and showed great team spirit against formidable opposition.

The league continues in January, with the next tournament for the mixed U16 team on Sunday 21st January and with tournaments for the U18 boys team on both Sunday 14 and Sunday 28 January. Most of the boys in Squad A will be required for all 3 of these fixtures, so please put the dates in your diaries now and keep them free.

Water polo training sessions are open to all club members in E1 and above who are aged 9+. Squad B trains at Iron-monger Row on alternate Sunday mornings from 10.00 - 11.00 am, while Squad A trains at Ironmonger Row on alternate Sunday mornings from 10.30 -12.00 am and at Highbury Grove on Tuesday evenings from 7.00 - 8.30 pm. Please ask Andy which session to come to initially. You will then be assessed and allocated to a squad.

Why not give it a try in the New Year?
